Tripod Floor Lamp

A tripod floor lamp is a great addition to your home. Any floor lamp is great for adding light across a broad area of the room and happily, it is a soft ambient light rather than the kind of stark glare you get from an overhead pendant lamp.

Tripod floor lamps have other special advantages too however. Whichever style you choose, they are particularly practical. That’s because they are very stable with their three legs compared to floor lamps, which generally only have one leg and a base and a tendency to be top-heavy and unstable. Tripod lamps are not easy to knock over and yet they still do not take up a lot of floor space. They also have a streamlined look, and so tend not to add a cluttered look to your room. Because they are so stable it makes them a particularly good choice if you have pets or small children, who tend to race around not looking where they are going.

As well as providing great lighting for general activities in the room, these lamps are also beautiful and are more stylish than many other floor lamps in the same price range.

From the selection below, you will see that tripod floor lamps generally fall into one of two styles. They either have three legs as their base and use traditional lamp shades or they are in the style of lighting at a movie or photographers studio, having a main stem and three shorter legs for stability. While the first type, provided they are made of classic materials (see the wooden tripod floor lamp for an example) can fit easily into a traditional environment, the “lights, camera, action” tripod floor lights suit a more contemporary environment and particularly a monochrome color scheme or a room with a lot of metallic furniture. Each type of lamp can look beautiful and stylish in the right setting.

Beautiful White Chandelier

If you are looking to buy a white chandelier for your home, you may have any number of lighting ideas in your mind. Although a chandelier always hangs from the ceiling and has a number of branches or arms coming out from a central point, there are many styles within that general design framework, from the chandeliers of old which were merely two pieces of wood nailed together at the center and fitted with candles at each end to the elaborate crystal concoctions beloved of stately house ballrooms.

If you are looking for contemporary lighting and lamp shades, you will find white chandeliers, that look right at home. If you are looking for something that fits in with a more traditional or formal style, perhaps an antique white chandelier rather than a bright white space age variety, you will also not be disappointed.

Contemporary chandeliers are generally very simple in shape and they often have smooth white glass shades and a metal framework. A white glass chandelier like this, even in a classic style, would look at home in many modern surroundings, but you can also get a white acrylic chandelier, which has a very space age, out of this world look and which has the most “avant garde” design. For a monochromatic room, you should be able to find a black and white chandelier or two, which would be the ideal pendant light. For these chandeliers, the framework of the light may be black or white and then it may have mini chandelier lamp shades which are plain black or white (the opposite of the frame) or a black and white design.

For romantic rooms, look out for intricate metal chandeliers where the metal has been painted white and which are furnished with candle bulbs and few crystal droplets. These are beautiful without veering over into the over the top ballroom style. Sometimes a white chandelier light like this will have enameled flowers or leaves decorating the framework and it make the center of your ceiling into something beautiful.

Below you will find a selection of traditional and contemporary white chandeliers for sale, to give you some ideas for your lighting. If you don’t find what you are looking for on this page, take a look at the selection HERE.

Cheap Lamp Shades

If you see cheap lamp shades for sale, chances are that those lamp shades are perfectly practical but not very pretty. The most beautiful beaded lamp shades and those made from wonderful fabrics such as silk and pure linen are generally not the lowest price lampshades you can find. The cheap shades are probably in quite plain colors and shapes but in many ways that doesn’t matter if that is what your lamp base needs. If you have a very beautiful table lamp sometimes the best way to set that off is with a very simple square or drum lamp shade in cream or white. That way the base gets all the attention it deserves.

Very simple plain lamp shades are most in keeping with contemporary interiors however. In a traditional environment, it is better if your lamp shade has a touch of elegance and, in that case, fabrics and decoration matter.

If you need a fancier lamp shade but you have a limited budget then you have a few options.

Discount Lamp Shades

One way is to look for discount lamp shades which were quite expensive at full price but which have been reduced. You will find these in designer outlet centers and in the lighting department of department stores at sale times as well as in exclusive specialized lighting stores.

Decorate a Plain Lamp Shade

Another way is to buy a cheap lamp shade in a plain color and fabric and give it the designer touch by decorating it. You probably can’t imagine how many trimmings there are which would work to give your lampshade a unique design, but there are endless variations. You can get some great ideas by looking in the haberdashery department of a big store where they sell trimmings by the meter or yard. You will find all kinds of edgings which you can attach to your plain shade with a glue gun. There are things like fringing made with beads which are fantastic as they catch the light and many different embroidered braids as well as feather edgings for an exotic look.

Cover Your Lamp Shade

Yet another option is to cover your lampshade with exotic paper. You will find some beautiful hand made papers in craft shops. You can do this most easily with a drum lamp shade or a conical one with straight sides. Other shapes are a bit trickier to deal with. Roll you lamp shade over the paper and mark the edges to form a template, then cut out leaving a small margin for overlap. Wrap the paper around the lamp so it is a smooth fit and then use a good glue on the overlap to keep the cover in place. You make can make this even easier if you use a self adhesive lamp shade as then all you have to do is cut out fabric or paper following the included pattern and then apply it to the lampshade.
