Halogen Floor Lamp : Pick of the Best

Floor lamps have always been useful. They are independent lighting units and this makes them extremely portable. You can move them and plug them in anywhere and get light exactly where you need it. But why choose a halogen floor lamp over one with a standard incandescent bulb?

Halogen bulbs emit a bright white light which illuminates your room better than a standard light bulb. They use less energy to create that brightness and the bulbs last longer too. The best thing of all, however, is that these bulbs are used in the most beautiful contemporary light fixtures – a halogen lamp generally means that the lamp has been particularly designed for a modern living space. Some halogen floor lamps are great to situate by a chair where you read or sew as they give off a directional light allowing you to see better than just by using the ambient light of the room. Others are better for general room illumination. This depends on the particular type of halogen lamps and lamp shades used.

Torchiere Halogen Floor Lamp

One of the most popular type of floor lamps is the torchiere lamp. This has a solid stable base and a long straight stem ending in a bowl shaped shade at the top which contains the halogen bulb or bulbs. The bowl may be made of metal or glass but, whatever the material used, it directs the light upwards creating a wash of light over the walls and/or the ceiling. This is great for providing extra general light in the room as well as illuminating artwork on the walls just above it.

Gooseneck Halogen Floor Lamp

This type of lamp has one or more “arms” each ending in a lamp shade and bulb. In this type of lamp the arms can be moved to point in various directions so that they cast light on whatever you are doing. It is this type of light which is great for reading or other close work. If the lamp has more than one arm, it is great for using between two seats as the light can be pointed wherever each sitter requires independently!

Combination Floor Lamps

Any Reasons Not to Use Halogen Floor Lamps?

The bulbs tend to get very hot and a light on a long stem is less stable than some others such as a tripod floor lamp so it may be best to use one only where you can be sure that it will not get knocked over by children and pets. Having said that the good quality ones have a heavy base and are stable enough in most situations. Perhaps, avoid them for kids rooms, however, in case they start reaching out to touch the bulb and get a nasty fright or even a burn. Due to the heat factor, avoid placing a halogen floor lamp where fabric could catch fire from the hot bulb. This would take a lot to do, but it is best not to tempt fate.
