Black Chandelier Lighting
Black chandelier lighting is very much in vogue and if you are looking for a black chandelier you will see a great selection below which shows the variety of light fixtures you could choose for your home. If you are not sure what you need here is a brief guide to choosing black chandeliers.
Get the Right Size
Good interior design is often a case of getting the proportions right. It is no good buying a huge 3-tier 18 light black wrought iron chandelier if you live in a country cottage with low ceilings. Apart from the practical issue of hitting your head on your light fixture as you go past, it will look totally out of place. A modest 3-light chandelier hugging the ceiling would work much better.
One rule of thumb as far as this goes is to measure the height and width of the room in feet and add them together and then chandelier depth should be no more than that in inches. You may ignore this for a chandelier which hangs over a dining table, however, as in this case it is fine for your light to hang a little lower. In that case, make sure that the bottom of the light is at least 32 inches above the table. This is so that the light illuminates the table nicely but does not shine in the eyes of those sitting at the table.
So far we have been really thinking about chandeliers which are too big, but too small can also look ridiculous. A tiny black crystal chandelier in a huge loft apartment will look silly. This is where you need a big installation so that it can have some impact on the space.
Get the Right Style
Match the style of your chandelier not only to your personal taste but also to the style of the room. A rustic black iron chandelier is great in a country home but would look out of place in a romantic bedroom. A mini black crystal chandelier may look just right in a contemporary room decorated using a black and white color scheme but would not suit a traditional wooden kitchen. A heavy black chandelier is not right for every room. Think about it before you buy one, no matter how much you love the light!
Right for Your Budget
Black chandelier prices vary a great deal depending on the size (number of lights), the brand, the materials and the design. If you want a large Quoizel chandelier, for example, expect to pay more than for a generic discount store mini chandelier. If you have a limited budget, look for a 3-light iron chandelier or a mini black glass chandelier, which has the look of crystal rather than a genuine crystal chandelier. The best way to get an idea of prices is to browse online for a bit to get an idea of the current selling prices and then set your budget accordingly. Just be aware, when you are buying for one of the main rooms in your home, it is worth paying a bit more your chandelier lighting to have the required elegant, classy look. Your light may well become a focal point for the room and the quality needs to live up to that task.
White into Black?
If you are on a very limited budget and have a metal or white chandelier already but would like a black one, think about adding black chandelier lamp shades to change the look of your light at low cost. Alternatively you could keep the existing lamp shades and spray paint the fixture (carefully covering up any parts which should not be painted) with black paint and change any crystals to black ones for a new look.
